CONTACT
Shams Afzal is Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at Carnegie Investment Counsel’s Toledo office.  A passionate and solutions-focused professional, Shams is dedicated to the total well-being and success of his clients.  Shams also brings to Carnegie a unique perspective on risk management and material deficiencies sometimes obscured in public financial statements.

Prior to Carnegie, Shams worked for Owens Corning as a key member of the company’s Strategic Planning team, Shams helped craft the Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A) section seen in 10-k filings of public companies. In this role, he had exposure as an Auditor to Sarbanes Oxley law and U.S. GAAP application to operations in Russia, China, India, and Western Europe. This gives him a strong foundation for global risk management for the modern portfolio. Shams’ experience in working with, and leading, teams in five continents, and having lived in two of those continents, provides Shams a rare window into commonalities of the human condition and people’s hopes and desires that are borne from it.

Shams brings extensive insight and knowledge to investing in global financial markets having served in various ascending capacities at a Fortune 500 company. His experience ranges from plant controllership of $100 million facility to financial consolidation of a $2 billion global division P&L.

Shams earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance with a minor in Business Law, from the University of Toledo.  He is also trained in the Six Sigma discipline and is Green Belt certified, rounding off his skills in business process engineering, which is critical to internal processes and optimal client service.

He is married and lives in Perrysburg, Ohio.
