CONTACT
David A. Tillson, CFA, serves as Principal, Director, and Portfolio Manager at Carnegie Investment Counsel, bringing 50 years of investment experience to guide clients with seasoned perspectives and thoughtful strategies. He integrates research, conviction, and patience to help clients navigate the complexities of investing. As Mark Twain once said, “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes,” a philosophy that resonates in David’s approach to long-term investment success.

David began his career as a research analyst at General Reinsurance Corp. before joining U.S. Trust Co. in the mid-1990s as Senior Vice President and later Managing Director, where he managed client portfolios and the Excelsior Blended Equity mutual fund. He then served at Cramer Rosenthal McGlynn, overseeing private clients, before founding Eagle Ridge Investment Management in 2008.

David earned his B.A. in Economics from Brown University and an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He currently serves as a trustee for the Heckscher Foundation for Children.

Married for 52 years, David enjoys traveling with his wife to gain a broader perspective on how people live around the world. He is a proud father of two daughters and grandfather to three grandchildren.
About the CFA Designation
The Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”) charter is a professional designation established in 1962 and awarded by CFA Institute. To earn the CFA charter, candidates must pass three sequential, six-hour examinations over two to four years. The three levels of the CFA Program test a wide range of investment topics, including ethical and professional standards, fixed-income analysis, alternative and derivative investments, and portfolio management and wealth planning. In addition, CFA charterholders must have at least four years of acceptable professional experience in the investment decision-making process and must commit to abide by, and annually reaffirm, their adherence to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.
